Mobility Assistance and Fall Prevention in West Park
A fall is rarely a surprise. It builds up at one difficult corner, crossed twice daily, until the morning it finally fails.
The cheapest part of this costs nothing
A good share of what makes a home safer costs nothing at all to change. A rug taken up. A light left on. A box moved off a high shelf. A chair swapped for one four inches higher. None of that needs a care plan, and we will tell you about it whether or not you book anything.
The part that does need booking is the hands-on help — the transfer out of bed, the walk down the hallway — and the fact that everyone helping does it the same way.
Mobility support is normally written into a wider aide or personal care visit rather than booked by itself.
What the help covers
Kept inside the limits of a non-clinical role.
Transfers
Bed to chair, chair to bathroom, house to car — right technique, right equipment, never by the arm.
Walking support
Somebody alongside on the landing and the stairs, moving at whatever speed is comfortable.
Equipment used properly
Walking aids set to the right height and actually being used, rather than standing unused by the door.
Hazards removed
Loose mats removed, trailing cable tucked away, a light left on at the turn of the stairs, high shelves emptied.
Position changes
Weight shifted at intervals for anybody who can no longer do it themselves in a chair.
Signals worth acting on
- There has been a fall, or a near miss nobody wrote down
- The route across a room now runs chair to table to doorframe
- The low chair now takes three attempts
- The frame gets left behind for short trips
- Bruising on shins and forearms nobody can account for
Ten minutes on the telephone is often enough
Describe the trip from bed to bathroom and we will tell you what we would change first.
